No decision yet on closure of garment factories

The discussion between the apparel makers and the cabinet secretary held today could not decide whether the garment factories will remain closed or open during the 14-day countrywide lockdown starting from July 23. Faruque Hassan, president of Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association, said they are scheduled to hold a meeting again with cabinet secretary the day after tomorrow.

Hassan briefed the journalists after the meeting held at the secretariat in Dhaka. The association has been demanding for the last three days to keep garment factories open during the lockdown, as they fear the closure may cause massive losses because July and August are important months for shipment of goods and booking for work orders for next summer.
